A website for painters that shows what you can do
Painting and decorating is a matter of taste, and that is exactly why so much is decided by the picture. Anyone who sees what you have done enquires differently.
Painting businesses face a particular problem: their work is visible everywhere and yet rarely noticed. A well-painted wall does not stand out. That is the whole point.
All the more depends on the website. It is the only place where someone can take their time to see what you do: the façade, the period property renovation, the decorative plaster in the living room, the floor coating in the workshop. And it helps decide which enquiries come in, private customers with one room or property managers with whole buildings.
That is the real steering job: not more enquiries, but the right ones.
Separate your services instead of listing everything
“All kinds of painting work” tells nobody anything, and nobody searches for it either. People search for specific things:
- Exterior painting and façade renovation
- Interior painting, wallpapering, decorative plaster techniques
- Renovation of period and listed buildings
- Lacquer work on doors and windows
- Floor coatings in workshops, garages and commercial premises
- Thermal insulation (external wall insulation systems), if you offer it
Each of these areas deserves its own section with pictures. If you only have one catch-all page, you will not be found for any of these searches.
Pictures are your argument
What works on painters' websites is rarely the perfect photo. It is comparability: the same corner before and after, the same façade from the same side of the street.
Add three details that turn a picture into evidence: what was done, where, and how long it took. “Façade, period building, Bonn-Beuel, two weeks” answers more questions than three paragraphs of text.
Important for the technical side: phone photos straight from the camera are huge. Uncompressed, they slow the site down so much that visitors leave before the first picture appears. That is one of the most common mistakes on tradespeople's websites, more on this under websites for tradespeople.
Speaking to private customers and business clients
The two search differently. Private customers search by room and effect, often with pictures in their heads. Property managers, developers and businesses search for capacity, reliability and invoicing.
If you serve both, the site needs both paths, and a clear note on what you do for commercial clients. Otherwise you get twenty enquiries for a single room and none for a stairwell.
Frequently asked questions
How many references do we need?
Six to ten well-described ones are plenty, as long as they cover your range. A gallery of eighty pictures without text achieves less than six with two sentences each.
Should we give prices for standard work?
In painting and decorating, almost everything depends on the condition of the surface, so a figure given without a site visit rarely holds. It is more honest to write a sentence on how you arrive at a quote.
We do a lot of work for property managers. Does that change the site?
Yes. Then it needs a section of its own that covers capacity, contact person and how jobs are handled. That is a different language from the one you use with private customers.
Can we add new projects ourselves?
Yes, we set it up that way. For painting businesses in particular it pays off: every finished job is new content that also counts on Google.
